Biblioteca Sangharakshita
La biblioteca se encuentra en los jardines de Adhisthana
Urgyen Sangharakshita tuvo la visión de crear una biblioteca para preservar su legado como maestro y como fundador de la comunidad Triratna. Quería que en ella se conservaran todos los libros que había coleccionado y todos los que había escrito. Ahora tenemos esa biblioteca en los jardines de Adhisthana. Tan solo en la colección de Sangharakshita hay unos 11,000 libros, así como un archivo de otros materiales que ofrecen una espléndida imagen del desarrollo de sus enseñanzas y de todo el movimiento Triratna.
Disponer de toda la biblioteca personal de Sangharakshita en un solo lugar ofrece una visión de lo que dio forma e inspiró su pensamiento. Además de los textos budistas -incluidos los cien libros que se trajo de la India y que le sirvieron de base para escribir el Estudio-, hay filosofía, psicología, historia del arte, biografía, literatura y mucho más. Es fascinante poder ver de manera concreta los textos que han contribuido a influir en sus ideas y sus escritos.
Esos primeros cien libros se encuentran ahora desgastados y descoloridos, pero se les ha dado un lugar de honor en la biblioteca como forma de reconocer su importancia en el desarrollo de las enseñanzas de Sangharakshita.
Actualmente tenemos la encantadora tarea de dar vida a la biblioteca de Sangharakshita como lugar de inspiración y creatividad para la Comunidad Triratna, preservando y edificando su legado para el futuro.
The library can be a source of inspiration for the whole of Triratna as we preserve and build on Sangharakshita’s legacy. Its resources are available to all members of the Triratna community; visitors to Adhisthana can use the collection and there are library tours during big gatherings.
The work is far from complete though. We are exploring ways in which we can raise awareness of this precious resource and bring it ever more to life. We also want to make it easier for people to access it. As a first step we are working to complete our digital catalogues which will be available here and on the Adhisthana website.

The work of the Sangharakshita Library is supported by the Friends of the Sangharakshita Library (FOSLs). They help with practical tasks and share their enthusiasm for the role of the Library within Triratna. We now have a dedicated core group of people who come on retreat at Adhisthana twice a year and spend several days working in the Library. The jobs we do on these long weekends include:
cataloguing and digitising the catalogue
reorganising the collections
stamping and labelling new acquisitions
keeping the collections clean and in good repair.
The retreats give participants the chance to immerse themselves in the Library and include meditation, puja and sharing of poems and readings as well as rewarding work. They make a vital contribution to developing and caring for Sangharakshita’s Library.
